Hutchins Unit Release Paths
Hutchins Unit is a Texas Department of Criminal Justice Correctional Institutions Division prison for men. It is not a county jail. TDCJ lists Hutchins as a regional release site, but that role does not mean every person processed there was housed there for an entire sentence. The controlling record belongs to TDCJ. Departure can mean parole, mandatory supervision, discharge at sentence end, or movement to another TDCJ unit or program.
Parole allows a prisoner to serve the remaining sentence under supervision after a discretionary Board decision. Mandatory supervision is a separate statutory route based on calendar time, good-conduct time, eligibility, and Board review. Discharge ends the sentence or supervision obligation reflected by the record. A unit transfer ends custody at Hutchins without ending TDCJ custody. Always state which event the source proves.
| Event | Meaning | Confirmation |
|---|---|---|
| Parole release | Leaves prison under supervision | TDCJ Parole Division and assigned office |
| Mandatory supervision | Statutory supervised release if eligible and approved | TDCJ/BPP status and records |
| Discharge | State custody or sentence ends as recorded | TDCJ release/discharge record |
| Unit transfer | Still in TDCJ custody | Current TDCJ location |
Confirm Hutchins Unit Release
The TDCJ offender search includes only people currently incarcerated in a TDCJ facility. It accepts last and first name, TDCJ number, SID number, gender, and race. At least a last name plus first initial, a TDCJ number, or a SID is required. Last-name matching is exact. TDCJ updates the data on working days, and displayed information may be at least 24 hours old.
A released or discharged person does not remain online as a historical released result. That limitation is crucial. Absence after a projected date is consistent with release, but it does not prove the date, method, or destination. Use the state follow-up channels.
- Search the exact name or TDCJ/SID while the person remains incarcerated.
- Save the TDCJ number, current unit, offense data, and projected date.
- Before a release vote, call BPP status at 844-512-0461.
- After a favorable vote, call Parole Division status at 512-406-5202.
- Request actual release or discharge data from TDCJ when written proof is needed.
Hutchins Unit Contact Records
The official Hutchins Unit page identifies the prison at 1500 E. Langdon Road in Dallas. The unit phone is 972-225-1304. General TDCJ locator and information lines are 936-295-6371 and 800-535-0283, available Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. These state contacts, not Dallas County jail information, are the correct route for a Hutchins prisoner.

For email information, send the full name and seven-digit TDCJ number to pia@tdcj.texas.gov. If the number is unknown, follow TDCJ's instructions for exact date of birth or approximate age and county of conviction. A response may include location, conviction and incarceration details, prior incarceration history, and Projected Release Date. The service does not provide photographs. Ask separately for the actual release date, release mechanism, supervision status, and unit when those are the facts needed.
Hutchins Projected Release Record
TDCJ uses the exact field name “Projected Release Date.” The value may reflect a mandatory-supervision or discharge calculation, depending on offense date and legal eligibility. Texas good-conduct time affects parole or mandatory-supervision eligibility under Government Code Chapter 498; it does not simply shorten the sentence imposed by the court. Loss of good time, classification changes, program needs, detainers, consecutive sentences, court corrections, or Board action can move the projection.
Texas has no blanket rule that a prisoner must serve 85 percent. For specified serious or deadly-weapon cases, Government Code section 508.145 uses an actual-calendar-time test for first parole eligibility. That eligibility point is not a promised release. Mandatory supervision is governed separately by sections 508.147 and 508.149. Confirm the live statute and the individual TDCJ calculation instead of applying a broad percentage.
- Projected date
- A calculated future endpoint based on current TDCJ data.
- Parole
- Discretionary supervised release before sentence completion.
- Discharge
- The recorded completion of the controlling custody or sentence obligation.
- Detainer
- A request or hold tied to another authority that can redirect custody.
Hutchins Release and Parole
A favorable BPP vote can include a future date or program requirement. It may be changed if new information arises. After a vote for release, the TDCJ Parole Division status line is the better operational source. If release occurs under supervision, confirm the assigned office through the live Region II directory rather than choosing an office from a home address. Dallas County has several district parole offices and a reentry center.
A person can leave Hutchins yet remain within TDCJ through transfer. Likewise, a person can leave TDCJ prison but remain under parole supervision. The current-only search eventually stops showing a released person, so a historical question belongs with TDCJ records and Parole Division. The Dallas County release-search overview helps distinguish county, state, federal, and ICE systems, but the Dallas Sheriff cannot certify a Hutchins release.
Note: A Board vote describes a decision; TDCJ release status or the written discharge record establishes the later custody event.
Hutchins Regional Release Site
Hutchins serves as a regional release site. That is a facility-specific fact from the TDCJ material and helps explain why release processing may be associated with Hutchins even when a person had another state placement. Do not infer the entire incarceration history from the final processing site. Use the TDCJ number and records response to connect the prisoner, unit history, and actual release.
The unit has a sourced capacity of 2,276 men. Capacity describes the institution, not a released-person list. It does not supply a release count or predict how fast a particular case moves. No successful manifest image is exact to Hutchins Unit. The official-page capture failed, so the page remains text-only as required instead of borrowing a general TDCJ screenshot.
For exact proof, retain the current result before release, then pair it with TDCJ's actual-status or records response. The first source shows the pre-release state. The second establishes whether the person entered parole, mandatory supervision, discharge, or another placement.
